“If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration” – Nikola Tesla
Most people think of vibrations as an oscillation or shaking of something. Think of an earthquake and the subsequent tremors that cause buildings to fall down and crevices to form. That’s not what I’m talking about. I’m talking about vibrations in the sense of a person’s emotional state or the atmosphere of a place. The context is similar to a hippie “good vibes” lingo.
Now good vibes aside, I’m interested in this concept of vibrations. To be honest, I didn’t understand as I was never raised to really tap into that side of my brain or atleast not given the words to describe what I was feeling. I do have a few vivid recolections of times when I felt bad vibes (funny how th bad ones always stick in your memory). I remember walking into a room when one of my folks was in a bad mood, you could feel the weight in the room, thick as pea soup and you knew that a storm was brewing and an eruption was imminent.
As an adult I’m learning to notice those feelings more. I notice them when I walk into a room but I also notice them when I create them. I’m learning to notice not only the bad vibes, but the good vibes too. On top of that I’ve realised that I can control my own vibes. For instance when my kids are wrestling and my eldest is getting a little to rough with his 3 year younger brother, I have the ability to change the vibrations/mood in the room with my words (which sometimes go un-noticed while they negotiate a headlock), my voice tone, my posture, my facial expressions or the volume of my voice. I think using a combination of the above gives my kids multiple cues to know that “dad isn’t happy with this behaviour”. Of course because children are still learning one still needs to be very clear with language but that’s a story for another article.
This article explores the idea of finding an appropriate vibration for the situation. My wife and I recently hosted a birthday party for our 6 year old son and 12 of his mates. It was at the end of a looong work day for me, my wife had been setting up all day and the day was hot! This meant that both her and I were really struggling to sumon the energy to curate the kids. I noticed and was worried that the party was turning out to be a little bit of a flop. To remedy the situation, I took a deep breath an tried to raise the vibrations of the party. I put on some party music (thanks Spotify), cranked the volume, grabbed a bowl of lollies/candy and walked out to where the kids were. The next thing was to engage the kids so I abruptly turned the music off, explained the rules of “musical statues” (super easy game that only requires a music speaker and some fun music), threw the music on and let rip. Result = fun! Immediately the kids were more engaged, the party gained a bit of momentum and my wife and I started to get into the swing of things. To me, I had raised the vibrations of the party.
Something I’m still learning to do is to find the right vibration for the right occasion. We’ve all had the experience of sitting around after receiving bad news, the sombre mood still and calm, when a friend bursts in that hasn’t heard the news and proceeds to tell us about their favourite new thing. That’s an example where someone’s vibration doesn’t match the occassion. Similarily, I’ve been to work do’s where I’m dog tired and the event has needed something a little more peppy.
As an adult I’m getting better and noticing the room, the mood, the vibrations. At the same time I try to take stock of my own vibrations and think of whether or not it matches.
In life, we are constantly surrounded by different vibes. Some are good, some are bad, and some are just neutral. But how do we find the right vibe to suit the situation? How do we create an atmosphere that promotes positivity and productivity? The answer lies in understanding the power of vibes and learning how to cultivate the right energy for any given situation.
Vibes are the energy that surrounds us and permeates our environment. They can be influenced by our thoughts, emotions, and actions, as well as external factors such as music, lighting, and even the weather. When we are surrounded by good vibes, we feel energized, motivated, and inspired. Conversely, when we are surrounded by bad vibes, we feel drained, anxious, and stressed.
So how do we cultivate good vibes? The first step is to become aware of the vibes around us. Pay attention to how you feel in different environments and with different people. Are you energized or drained? Motivated or demotivated? Inspired or uninspired? Once you become aware of your own vibes, you can start to intentionally create the right energy for any given situation.
One way to create good vibes is to surround yourself with positive people. Choose friends and colleagues who lift you up, support you, and inspire you to be your best self. Avoid people who are negative, critical, or judgmental, as they can bring down your energy and create a toxic atmosphere.
Another way to cultivate good vibes is to practice gratitude. Focus on the good things in your life, and express gratitude for them. This can be as simple as taking a few minutes each day to reflect on what you are thankful for. Gratitude helps to shift our focus from what is lacking to what we have, creating a positive and abundant energy.
Music is also a powerful tool for creating good vibes. Choose music that uplifts and inspires you, and that is appropriate for the situation. For example, if you are trying to focus on work, choose instrumental music or music with a steady beat. If you are trying to relax, choose calming music such as classical or nature sounds.
Finally, it’s important to take care of yourself in order to cultivate good vibes. Eat well, exercise regularly, and get enough sleep. When we are taking care of our physical and mental health, we have more energy and are better able to create a positive atmosphere around us.
In conclusion, finding the right vibe to suit the situation is all about understanding the power of vibes and learning how to cultivate the right energy for any given situation. By becoming aware of the vibes around us, surrounding ourselves with positive people, practicing gratitude, choosing appropriate music, and taking care of ourselves, we can create an atmosphere that promotes positivity, productivity, and success. So go out there and create some good vibes today!
